This division plays an important role in building the collections of the National Library in the following ways:
- Updating basic reference collections such as encyclopaedias, dictionaries and lexicons especially in applied sciences.
- Acquiring titles related to the Middle East region, especially in the field of history, geography, economy, politics and social sciences.
- Acquiring complete works of international literature, with a concentration on works that have won international prizes especially the Nobel Prize in literature.
- Acquiring the complete works of Arab writers and authors in all languages.
- Fulfilling the needs of different professional categories and visitors of the National Library (engineers, doctors, accountants and others).
- Providing research material for university and college students in Abu Dhabi (Zayed University, UAE University, Ajman University, Higher Colleges of technology) as well as researchers and members of the teaching staff.
- Exchange and Donation : this section enhances cultural and intellectual ties with corporate bodies, establishments, organizations and universities in the Arab world as well as international organizations. The exchange of printed material is intended to promote the cultural, economic and social development of the UAE, as well as build institutional links between ministries, foundations and others. This section can provide all publications issued by governmental authorities in UAE such as books, periodicals, statistical data, symposiums and bulletins in a wide variety of fields.
