Al Murayjib Fort was built around 1816 during the reign of Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Diab, a member of the ruling Al Nahyan family, who chose to settle on his own farms in the Al Qattara Oasis. The fort takes its name from the locality.

The fort is set in beautiful gardens of trees, flower beds and lawns and comprises three free-standing buildings: the two-storey fort itself; a large, square tower for servants and household guards and a circular watchtower, positioned strategically to protect the vital water source.

The fort was the formal residence of the Sheikh and his family, and included a hall in which to receive visiting dignitaries. Al Murayjib is one of the oldest forts in Al Ain and probably contributed to the strategic, political and economic development of the area during the nineteenth century.
