A year- long program of contemporary World performance focusing on music, and dance. This project showcases an elite selection of renowned performers from around the world, selected="true" for their cultural and musical resonance with Abu Dhabi’s social fabric and in support of our programming policy and developing strategic initiatives
Dance Commission: Akram Khan/ ‘Vertical Road’ project/ Residency & 2 performances
Phase one of our first dance commission involves choreographer Akram Khan in a two week residency with local musicians from the Beit al Oud and two performances (2009-10); Phase two, is the international production of a new piece inspired by the heritage of the Arab world and using Arab performers, designers and musicians (2010-11)
Music Commission: Tariq Banzi and Bait al Oud/ Residency & 1 performance
Phase one of our music commission in 2009 was Kamal Mussalam and Sokhoor al Magabeel collaboration and recording production. Phase two involves master Tunisian instrumentalist and composer Tariq Banzi in a two-week residency with local musicians from the Bait al Oud, with the aim of performing on stage at WOMAD Abu Dhabi 2010
Theatre Commission: tba/ Workshops & 1 performance
Phase one of our theatre commission in 2010 involves an educational program of workshops for local theatre practitioners to result in a new theatre piece. This production will effectively be the first initiative of the Performing Arts Biennale and will be curated by Tarek Abou el Fetouh and local partners
