The Intangible Heritage Department seeks to fulfil the vision and objectives of ADACH as stipulated in the Authority’s creation decree No 28 of 2005, especially in the fields of intangible heritage preservation, development and management. The department also endeavours to carry out the plans, programs and projects according to the Abu Dhabi Cultural Heritage Management Strategy.

Vision
 
To be the authoritative department and one of the most important, effective and practical departments in collecting, preserving, protecting, documenting, studying, developing and promoting the traditional culture and history of Abu Dhabi and the lifestyle and identity of its citizens.

Main Mission
 
To collect, conserve, protect, document, study, develop and promote the traditional culture, history and lifestyle of Abu Dhabi citizens in collaboration with the ministries and local, federal, regional and international departments, authorities and institutions, both the governmental and non-governmental.

Divisions of the Department
 
The Intangible Heritage Department is subdivided into the following three divisions:Research Division, Archives Division and Production Division.

Research Division

Its missions include the following:
  • Conduct intangible heritage, oral history and folklore research (literature and arts) in Abu Dhabi.
  • Documenting, preserving, archiving and studying all aspects of traditional culture, oral history and folklore in Abu Dhabi in cooperation with the other departments concerned in ADACH.
  • Publishing the results of research and studies.
  • Maintaining strong relationships with other local, regional and international institutions and authorities working in this field.

Archives Division

Its missions include the following:
  • Storing, acquiring and saving field data, studies, slides, images, audio and visual recordings related to heritage and oral history.
  • Collecting and conserving relevant manuscripts, books and periodicals.
  • Conducting library research and creating reference collections.
  • Maintaining a library of reference books and other relevant publications (such as rare books, other books that are out of print, rare publications and the most important references).
  • Working as an information center that provides instant consultations regarding the collections saved in the archives and other information related to history, folklore and popular life in Abu Dhabi.
  • Providing research tools to help develop the studies related to traditional heritage, oral history and popular life of Abu Dhabi.

Production Division

Its missions include the following:
  • Working as a societal communication center to promote and develop the heritage of Abu Dhabi, especially in the fields of molding, music, signing and handicrafts.
  • Participating in organizing performances, festivals and other events and activities to recognize and mark the different events in Abu Dhabi
  • Encouraging local initiatives related to the preservation of popular life and local history through providing the technical assistance based on expertise (consultations, resources, directives, curricula development, teacher workshops, equipment, loans, etc).
  • Providing care and assistance and arranging work on the proposed institutions, such as the Ethnology Museum, the Open Museum and the Arts & Artisans Zone.
  • Encouraging handmade products by selecting the families and groups known for producing such items.
  • Supporting, encouraging, enhancing, developing and arranging the work of heritage groups and other talented individuals in various arts, such as music, theatre, handicrafts, popular molding, etc, in order to help them contribute to development and tourism advancement.
