The major Saluki competition was held successfully on the 20th of December for the dogs that were qualified during the Second International Festival for Falconry in Al Ain – Rimah area last week.
Obaid Khalfan Al Mazroui the Director of heritage Competitions at the camel beauty contest (Mazayna Al Dhafra) said that 40 salukis from Al Rimah previous completion in Al Ain were qualified for this competition. Al Rimah’s competition was divided to10 runs and 4 winners were selected="true" in each period.
Al Mazrui added that the first and second winners from every period, a total of 20 saluki's competed in the first period which was won by the Saluki ''Khamla'' owned by Saif Mohammed Al Ketbi. And second place was awarded to the Saluki, "Tira", owned by Mohammed Hamad Al Shamsi.
In the Second period the other 20 Saluki's, that were qualified in third and fourth positions during the Rimah competition competed, and the Saluki ''Kasar'' owned by Saeed Saif Al Katami ranked in the 3rd position while ''Tamouh'' owned by Ali Issa Al Falahi ranked fourth.
Obaid Al Mazroui added that the first position prize was a car while the next three positions prizes were cash money, and trophies were distributed to the winners.
The 2 km race was very competitive between the Salukis due to great affinity between them. However the last year's record time of 12min 12 sec was not broken in the present competition.
The race marked the presence of an audience of different nationalities. The Director of the Al Dhafra Festival heritage competitions added that a puppet in the form of a deer was used to stimulate the Saluki's which required a great effort from the Saluki's trainers to convince them to run behind a puppet target.
