In Al Dhafra Festival first days
Emirati buys camels for UAD 32 m
Abu Dhabi – Camel sales has reached more than UAD 60 million in the first two days of Al Dhafra Festival going on in Zayed City in the Western Region. An official said.
The ten days festival organized by Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) includes multi activities that reflects UAE’s heritage. The core activities of the Festival is a camel beauty contest known locally as “Camel Mazayen”
Camel sales were active at Millions street at the location of the festival according to Hamad Kardous Al Ameri, member of the organizing committee.
“the festival challenged the economic resection in its first days; camel sales is very active since the begingn of the festival which points to hot competition coming up between camel owners more than last year” Al Ameri said.
Participants in the festival were talking about Emirati Hamdan Bin Ghanim Al Falahi who bought three camels last Sunday worth UAD 24 million. The First camel worth UAD 10 million, second worth UAD 9 million and the third worth UAD 5 million. In addition to that, the same buyer bought other camels totaled all UAE 32 million.
Another participant soled his camel yesterday for UAD 8.5 million.
The raise in camel sales reflects the interest of camel owners to support their camel troops with best and beautiful camels spicily that the festival introduce for the first time Al Bayraq lap where each participant is required to participate with a group of 50 camels, and the grand prize for first winner for booth Asayel and Majaheem camels is UAD 1 million.
On the other hand, other activities at the festival grabbed the attention of thousand visitors who experienced UAE heritage closely in the unique traditional market.
“The festival succeed in promoting UAE’s heritage and culture and put Al Dhafra on world tourist map in a short time” said Salim Al Mazrouei director of the festival.
The third session of the festival, held under the patronage of HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, started on Saturday 30 January and will last until February 8.
