ADACH participates in the Abu Dhabi Recruitment Show 2010

The Authority seeks to attract national talent in a number of major fields

ABU DHABI - The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) – represented by the Department of Human Resources – is participating in the fourth edition of the Abu Dhabi recruitment show "Tawdheef 2010", which takes place on February 2-4 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), in an effort to attract national talent in various fields.

This participation is part of the Authority’s rich 2010 cultural agenda and falls within its 2008-2012 strategy.

Abdul Rahim Khouri, Director of Human Resources in ADACH, stressed the Authority's keenness to maintain a continued presence in the most important recruitment fairs. These fairs are aimed at introducing graduate students to the nature of the Authority’s work and displaying the available jobs on offer through the Department of Human Resources and a number of other specialized departments.

ADACH offers rare opportunities for UAE citizens to work in projects of heritage conservation and promotion, the management of museums and restoration work and library services and cultural work as a whole. In addition to this many opportunities are on offer within administrative, financial, technical and logistics areas.

Large percentage of ADACH’s total workforce is comprised of UAE nationals. There are a large number of Emiratis working in detailed disciplines within the fields of museums, restoration and archaeological excavation. In addition to this they are involved in setting out cultural work strategies and operating the mechanisms necessary to implement and execute them.

The year 2009 was ADACH’s turning point as it signaled an important stage of the overall phase of the implementation of the Strategic Plan for 2008-2012.

The past year has witnessed a shift in the majority of ADACH’s projects towards a continuous institutional formula. This shift is a clear sign of a wise choice, and has enjoyed great success and positive feedback from the public locally, regionally and globally.

The Department of Human Resources has adopted a wide recruitment campaign for 2010 to keep up with the launch and completion of cultural and heritage projects. ADACH’s efforts have contributed to promoting Abu Dhabi's position as a hub for major cultural and artistic events, putting its activities on the world’s cultural map and making it a destination for artists and creators from around the world who are drawn to this outstanding cultural and artistic movement.

Hence, it is necessary to keep abreast of these achievements at all levels, particularly in terms of management, and work to attract the most qualified talents and competencies.

“ADACH follows high standards in the recruitment process through the techniques used by the evaluation center of the Department of Human Resources which include working on preparing and testing the candidates for the new posts,” said Khouri, adding that this technique “is methodological and based on unique criteria which will ensure the quality of the choice.”

Some mechanisms and tools are used to test the language abilities of the candidates and determine whether they can work in Arabic or English, or both for some jobs. Other tools are also used to examine the ability to communicate and make decisions within the job.

This technology helps to choose the right person for the right position in order to achieve organizational goals and objectives.

“There is a plan for cooperation, in line with the pursuit of excellence at both local and international levels, with the major universities and academies of the world to create a training center dedicated to the development of ADACH’s managerial competencies in various fields,” noted Khouri.

About ADACH

ADACH was established in October 2005 as a Government Department of Abu Dhabi. Its creation was a direct result of the implementation of the Abu Dhabi Cultural Heritage Management Strategy, a five-year plan prepared by a UNESCO-led team working closely with local experts. The Strategy identified the principal issues affecting the development of Abu Dhabi’s culture and heritage and laid down goals for its activities.

ADACH is an organisation with far-sighted aspirations – to harness the pride of the people of the UAE through the development of its cultural heritage, and to be the leading cultural development organisation in the region. Internationally it is contributing to the strengthening of intercultural dialogue and the appreciation of different cultures by developing projects that encourage the sharing of cultural traditions and experiences.

ADACH has a holistic vision of culture, which embraces both tangible and intangible heritage. It is committing all its resources to the preservation of architectural and archaeological assets, as well as to the development of Emirati and international arts, music, literature and cinema.
