Pre-event of the Abu Dhabi Classics Wagner Opera Gala

Abu Dhabi-The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) is happy to announce the first public viewing of an opera in the UAE as result of collaboration between the German Embassy, the French Embassy, the Paris Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, the Richard Wagner Society Abu Dhabi and Abu Dhabi Classics.

The first act of Richard Wagner’s opera „Die Walküre“will be screened on April 26, 2010, at 7 pm at the Brauhaus Garden, Beach Rotana Hotel Abu Dhabi. This public viewing is preceding the Wagner-Gala by Abu Dhabi Classics which takes place at the Emirates Palace on April 29 at 8 pm with the Bavarian State Orchestra and the world's leading Wagner singers.

In the same fashion of the great classical music public viewing events in Europe, opera lovers will be able to share a unique cultural experience. The objective of the event is to allow a larger public to discover one of Richard Wagner’s major works, the second Ring-Opera, Die Walküre (Act I). It will be shown in the legendary stage direction by the French theater Director and filmmaker Patrice Chéreau, whose collaboration with the world famous conductor and composer Pierre Boulez for the Bayreuth Ring 1976-1980 is widely considered as one of the most thrilling operatic performances of all time.

It also represents a wonderful example of French-German artistic collaboration. The film projection will be accompanied by a reception open to all, admission is free.
